Staying safe on dark nights

Some quick tips

  • Stick together: Whether you’re going to a friend’s house or are heading home avoid walking by yourself.
  • Know your route: Decide the route you are going to take before you set off
  • Plan ahead: Arrange a lift home in advance
  • Stay in touch: Keep family and friends updated on your whereabouts.
  • Be alert: Keep your valuables close by you.

Dark nights and stranger danger

If faced with a difficult situation in the dark, its important you know what to do in an emergency.

Always:

  • Shout for help! If someone suspicious approaches you, shout help, shout as loud as possible and keep repeating it.
  • Ensure to immediately give up any valuables if someone tries to mug you. Valuables can be replaced.

Keep seen, keep safe

  • Wear high visibility clothing, apply reflective stickers to backpacks and coats.
  • If using a bike or scooter, ensure they are fitted with lights.
